After joining Shueisha in 1976, he was assigned to the editorial department of "Weekly Shonen Jump" and trained many manga artists represented by Akira Toriyama and 

Masakazu Katsura as an editor. Worked on many hits including "Dragon Ball". 

In 1993, he launched "V Jump" as the first editor-in-chief, and returned to "Weekly Shonen Jump" as the magazine's sixth editor-in-chief in 1996. 

After that, he held positions such as Executive Director of Shueisha, and President & Chairman of Hakusensha.

He is also Known as a "demonic editor" who mercilessly rejects manuscripts, he is the model for the characters that appear in the "Jump" series, such as Dr. Masirito from 

"Dr. Slump" and Torishiman from "Very Lucky Man".
