He is currently working as an Art Director at Naughty Dog in Santa Monica, CA, where he draws on his extensive background in art creation and art direction to support and guide creative teams.
Before returning to Naughty Dog, Tate served as the Studio Art Director at Survios in Marina Del Rey, CA. In this role, he oversaw the visual direction for various projects and collaborated with teams involving all aspects of art creation.
His responsibilities included setting visual goals and ensuring consistent artistic quality across various projects.
Tate's earlier career at Naughty Dog spanned from 2002 to 2018, during which he contributed significantly to the Jak and Daxter series and the Uncharted series.
As a Lead Artist and then Art Director, he was deeply involved in developing the visual style and quality of these games.
His work on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End included initiating and guiding new technological processes like the PBR pipeline and procedural material workflows to enhance visual quality and production efficiency.
With a BFA in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design, Tate combines artistic expertise with technical skills.
